Quantity Surveyor – Manager

The Quantity Surveyor Manager leads all commercial and cost management activities for the data centre construction programme, overseeing contract administration, valuations, cost reporting, and the management of junior QS staff on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial management of the programme including contract administration, valuations, and cost reporting

  • Manage and mentor junior Quantity Surveyors (CSA and MEPF) on the project team

  • Administer main contracts and subcontracts including FIDIC, NEC, or bespoke client forms

  • Prepare and agree interim payment applications and certificates with clients and subcontractors

  • Manage the change control process including variation assessments, cost build-ups, and agreement

  • Prepare monthly cost reports, cost-at-completion forecasts, and budget variance analyses

  • Advise on contractual entitlement and risk allocation across the programme

  • Resolve commercial disputes and negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers

  • Manage procurement activities including tender analysis and subcontract award recommendations

  • Interface with the client commercial team on cost matters and reporting requirements

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong commercial and contractual knowledge across FIDIC, NEC, and bespoke construction contracts

  • Experience leading QS teams on large-scale, multi-discipline construction programmes

  • Proficiency in cost management software (CostX, Candy, or equivalent)

  • Advanced skills in Excel for cost modelling, reporting, and forecasting

  • Solid understanding of construction measurement and SMM/NRM methodologies

  • Experience with change management, variation valuation, and dispute resolution

  • Familiarity with procurement processes and subcontract tender analysis

  • Good knowledge of cost planning and benchmarking for data centre construction
